- CellThe smallest unit of life. Every living thing is made of one or more cells.
- NucleusThe control centre of a cell. It holds the DNA, the instructions for building and running the cell.
- CytoplasmThe jelly-like liquid that fills a cell. Most chemical reactions in the cell happen here.
- Cell membraneA thin skin around the cell. It controls which substances go in and out.
- MitochondriaTiny parts of a cell where energy is released from food. This process is called respiration.
- RibosomeA tiny part of a cell that builds proteins by joining small building blocks together.
- Cell wallA stiff outer layer made of cellulose found in plant cells. It supports and protects the cell.
- ChloroplastA green part of plant cells that contains chlorophyll and carries out photosynthesis.
- VacuoleA fluid-filled space in a plant cell. It stores sap and helps keep the cell firm.
- Specialised cellA cell with a shape and parts that suit one particular job.
- MagnificationHow many times bigger an image looks than the real object. Worked out with a formula.
- Stem cellAn unspecialised cell that can divide and turn into many different types of cell.
