How StudyVisually works

Seven ways to study one topic, how spaced repetition (FSRS) schedules your flashcards, and how AI turns a PDF or your notes into a deck, step by step.

Seven modes. I tried them all.

What are the seven study modes?

Each mode looks at the same cards from a different side. Here is what each one does, when to use it and why it helps. The previews run on real cards from the free guide.

Learn, also called concept cards

What it is
Each concept card shows one idea on 4 faces: what it is in plain English, an everyday analogy, an example, and where it shows up in real work. Cards without code skip the code face. A card counts as read once you reach its last face.
When to use it
When you meet a topic for the first time. Read a part's cards in order before you test yourself on them.
Why it works
Seeing the same idea from several angles gives you more hooks to remember it by. An analogy you can picture is easier to recall than a definition on its own.
Keyboard
← and → move between cards · Space shows the next face · Enter flips the focused card

LLM

Plain English

A Large Language Model is a function that takes text in and gives text back. GPT-4o, Claude and Llama are all LLMs.

Flashcards

What it is
A question on the front, the answer on the back. Answer in your head, flip, then rate yourself Again, Hard, Good or Easy. A session holds up to 10 cards: reviews that are due first, oldest first, then new cards from the parts you have opened.
When to use it
Every day, even on days with no time for anything else. Due cards wait for you if you skip a day.
Why it works
Pulling an answer out of memory strengthens it more than reading it again, an effect called active recall. Your rating then decides when the card comes back.
Keyboard
Space or Enter shows the answer · 1 to 4 rate the card

What is a context window?

Tap to flip
What is a context window?ANSWER

The maximum number of tokens a model can handle in one call.

How well did you know it?

Say the answer in your head, then tap the card.

Quiz, also called predict the answer

What it is
A short code snippet and 4 possible outputs. Pick one, then read why the right answer is right and what trips people up. Each part ends with a score, and you can try a part again. Signed-in learners can ask AI to explain a wrong pick.
When to use it
After reading a part's concept cards, to check you can use the ideas, not just recognise them. Quiz needs code, so decks about other subjects skip it.
Why it works
Committing to a guess before you see the answer makes the answer stick, even when the guess is wrong. A wrong pick points at the exact idea to look at again.

});
await ask("My name is Faisal");
const res = await ask("What's my name?");
console.log(res.choices[0].message.content);

What will this output?

Interview

What it is
A question an interviewer or examiner might ask. Answer out loud before the 60-second timer runs out, then reveal the key points and rate yourself "Nailed it", "Partly" or "Missed it". Signed-in learners can type or speak an answer and have AI grade it.
When to use it
Near the end of a part, and in the weeks before a real interview or exam.
Why it works
Explaining an idea in your own words shows the gaps that recognising it hides. The timer adds a little of the pressure of the real thing.
Keyboard
Space starts or pauses the timer · R reveals the key points · 1 to 3 rate your answer · → goes to the next question

What is an AI agent?

1:00

Answer out loud first. Then check the 3 key points a good answer covers.

Step by step, also called diagrams

What it is
A process drawn as boxes and arrows. Step through it one move at a time: the active box lights up and a caption says what happens. In the guide's agent diagrams, a side panel also shows the list of messages the model sees growing.
When to use it
When a topic is a sequence: how an agent loop runs, how a search pipeline finds an answer, how blood moves through the heart.
Why it works
Following a process one step at a time builds a picture of how the parts connect, which a paragraph of text rarely gives you.
Keyboard
← and → or Space step through

Step 1 of 8User goalThe user asks a question. It becomes the first user message, right after your system prompt.

Roadmap

What it is
Every part of a topic on one path, with how much of each part you have read. The next part opens once you have read 80% of the one before. In a hurry? "Unlock it anyway" opens a part early. Decks you make have their own branch and are never locked.
When to use it
When you want to see how far you have come and what comes next.
Why it works
Seeing the whole path keeps each lesson in context, and visible progress makes it easier to keep going.

Home

What it is
Your starting point each day. The current mission lists a few tasks across the modes that add up to 20 minutes. "Start mission" opens the next unticked task. Home also shows your streak and the flashcards due today.
When to use it
Every time you open the app.
Why it works
Deciding what to study is a small chore of its own. A ready-made plan removes it, and a daily streak turns showing up into a habit.

How does AI help while I study?

AI checks your answers in three ways: it grades interview answers, explains a wrong quiz pick and turns a spoken answer into text. Each helper starts from a button you press, so an AI use is never spent without you asking.

I grade fairly. Mostly.

Interview grading

Type your answer and AI says what you covered and what you missed. The grade is saved as your rating.

How does spaced repetition work?

Each flashcard keeps its own schedule. When you rate a card, FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler, an open-source method) estimates how well you know it and picks the day you would start to forget. Right answers push the next review further out. A miss brings the card back within minutes.

I'll remind you before you forget.

A brand-new card comes back after:
  • Again1 min
  • Hard6 min
  • Good10 min
  • Easy8 days

The gaps are exact, not shuffled, so the time printed on each button is the time you get. Gaps grow with every right answer and shrink after a miss. Scheduling runs on ts-fsrs, the open-source FSRS library. Try your own ratings in the spaced repetition calculator.

A new card you rate Good every time comes back after:
  1. Review 110 min
  2. Review 22 days
  3. Review 311 days
  4. Review 42 months
  5. Review 55 months

How does AI turn my notes into a deck?

Five steps, from the file you pick to the first card you study. You need a free account for this part; ready-made subjects work without one.

Feed me notes. I like PDFs.

  1. Add your material

Pick a PDF or a text file, or paste notes. PDF text is read in your browser. Free and Basic take up to about 20 pages per deck, Premium up to about 50 pages. On Premium, AI copies the text off scanned pages first.

  2. AI plans the parts

AI reads the whole text and splits it into parts, like chapters: one for every 10,000 characters (about 3 pages), up to 6. Each part gets a title and the topics it covers.

  3. AI writes each part

Concept cards, flashcards and interview questions for every part, plus predict puzzles when the material has code and a diagram when it describes a process. 3 parts are written at a time, in the background.

  4. Every item is checked

Each card and question is checked on its own, and anything with a missing or broken field is dropped. Diagrams are laid out on the same grid as the guide's. If nothing usable comes back, the deck doesn't count toward your monthly limit.

  5. Study it, fix it

The deck opens in every mode, with a 20-minute mission for each part. Edit or remove any card, or make the whole deck again from the same material.

Try it with today's mission.

Open the app and spend 20 minutes on a free subject or your own notes. Start without signing up, no card needed.
