Anki vs Quizlet, and where StudyVisually fits
Anki is free and fully tunable; Quizlet has shared sets, games and AI from your notes. Prices, spaced repetition and study modes side by side, plus a third option.

How are Anki and Quizlet different?
- Cost: Anki is free on desktop and Android (the iPhone app is a one-off purchase). Quizlet is free with ads, and its paid plans are monthly or yearly.
- Spaced repetition: Anki schedules every card with FSRS or SM-2, with a retention target you set. Quizlet's own pages describe Learn rounds, not a review schedule.
- Making cards: Anki is built around cards you make or download. Quizlet lets you search sets other people made, and its AI turns your notes into study material.
- Setup: Anki rewards tinkering with add-ons and settings. Quizlet works in a browser with almost nothing to set up.
Which should you choose?
Choose Anki if
you want complete control over your cards and scheduler, already have decks you like, and don't mind setting things up.
Choose Quizlet if
your class already shares Quizlet sets, or you want games and ready-made sets more than a daily study plan.
Choose StudyVisually if
you want spaced repetition like Anki without the setup, AI decks from your notes like Quizlet, and more than flashcards: concept cards, diagrams, predict and timed explain-it questions.

What StudyVisually does differently
Concept cards with four sides
Each idea gets four sides: plain English, an everyday analogy, an example and where it shows up in real work. Ready-made subjects and AI decks fill all four.
Step-by-step diagrams
Processes, cycles and sequences become diagrams you tap through one step at a time, with each step explained. AI decks draw one whenever your notes describe a process.
60-second explain-it answers
Interview questions give you 60 seconds to explain an idea in your own words, then show a model answer to check yours against. On Premium you can speak your answer and it is typed out for you.
FSRS with nothing to set up
Flashcards follow FSRS, a modern review scheduler, from the first card, aiming for 90% recall. No settings to change and no add-ons to install.
Where Anki is better
- It costs nothing on desktop and Android, and syncing between devices is free.
- It is open source, and add-ons let you change almost anything.
- You can tune the scheduler yourself, down to the desired retention.
- Desktop study works without an internet connection.
Where Quizlet is better
- You can search sets other people already made, so you may not need to make your own.
- Games and Live make it easy to run a quick review in class.
- It is free for teachers and connects to Google Classroom.
- Plus Unlimited includes expert-written textbook solutions.
Where StudyVisually fits
- Flashcards on an FSRS schedule, like Anki, with nothing to install or tune.
- AI decks from a PDF or your notes, plus concept cards, diagrams and practice questions on the same topic.
- Paste an Anki or Quizlet export into the flashcard maker to study it here.
- No ads, and studying is never limited by plan.
