Getting started
Is StudyVisually free?
Yes. The built-in guide, every study mode and saved progress cost nothing. A free account also makes 5 decks a month from your own notes and includes 3 AI gradings or explanations in total. Basic ($4 a month) and Premium ($8 a month) add more decks and more AI help.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the app and start studying, and your progress is saved in this browser. Sign in with your email when you want your progress on another device or want AI to build decks from your notes. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your inbox, so there is no password to remember.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. StudyVisually runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, and every screen has a layout made for small screens. There is nothing to install from an app store. Progress saved without an account stays in one browser, so sign in to carry the same progress between your phone and laptop.
Who is the free AI agents guide for?
JavaScript developers who want to build AI agents. Its 9 parts and 106 concept cards go from how a language model works to tool calling, retrieval (RAG), LangChain and running an agent in production. Every concept has a free lesson page, and the same cards open in the app as flashcards, puzzles and interview questions.
Studying
What are the seven study modes?
Concepts shows one idea on 4 faces. Flashcards ask you to recall answers on a spaced schedule. Predict asks what a code snippet prints. Interview gives you 60 seconds to answer out loud. Diagram steps through a process. Map shows every part on one path, and Home sets a 20-minute mission.
How does spaced repetition decide when I see a card again?
It uses FSRS, a scheduling method that estimates when you are about to forget each card. After you rate a card Again, Hard, Good or Easy, the next review moves sooner or later. A card you keep getting right comes back after days, then weeks, then months. A card you miss returns within minutes.
How long should I study each day?
About 20 minutes. Home shows your current mission, a short list of tasks across the study modes that takes 20 minutes. Any session counts toward your streak, such as one round of flashcards. Short daily practice spread over weeks beats one long session the night before a test.
How are study minutes counted?
A minute counts while a study screen is open (Concepts, Flashcards, Predict, Interview or Diagram), the tab is visible, and you typed, tapped or scrolled in the last 60 seconds. Time on Home, Plans or other pages doesn't count. Signed-in learners see their minutes per day on their dashboard.
Why are some parts locked?
Parts open in order so each one builds on the last. Part 1 is always open, and the next part opens once you've read 80% of the one before. You can also press "Unlock it anyway" on the map, and starting a mission opens the part it needs. Decks made from your notes are never locked.
What happens if I miss a day?
Your streak goes back to zero and starts again with your next session. Nothing else is lost. Flashcards that came due wait for you, oldest first, and each session holds at most 10 cards, so one sitting never turns into a wall of reviews.
Decks from your notes
What can I turn into flashcards?
PDF files, text files (.txt and .md) and notes you paste in. Free and Basic read up to about 20 pages per deck. Premium reads up to about 50 pages and also reads scanned PDFs, where every page is a photo, by having AI copy the text. Images, PowerPoint files, videos and web links are not supported.
How long does AI take to make a deck?
It depends on how much material you add. AI first plans the parts, one for every 10,000 characters (about 3 pages) and at most 6, then writes 3 parts at a time. The deck builds in the background, so you can keep studying, and a message tells you when it is ready.
What if the AI gets a card wrong?
Edit it. Every card, question and answer in your deck can be changed or removed on the Decks screen, as long as one concept card is left. Before you see a deck, items with missing or broken parts are dropped. You can also remake the whole deck, which uses one deck from your monthly allowance.
Does it work for subjects other than programming?
Yes. Any material you can read as text works, from biology notes to history chapters. You get concept cards, flashcards, interview questions and a diagram when the material describes a process. Predict questions use code for programming material and a short real-life situation for everything else.
Plans and payments
What do Basic and Premium add?
Basic ($4 a month) makes 30 decks a month and gives 150 AI gradings or explanations a month. Premium ($8 a month) makes 100 decks a month from up to about 50 pages each, gives 500 AI gradings or explanations a month, and adds scanned PDFs and spoken answers.
How do I cancel a paid plan?
Open Plans in the app and press Manage billing. It opens Creem's billing page, where you can cancel, change your card or download invoices. After cancelling you keep the paid plan until the end of the month you already paid for, then your account moves to Free.
What happens to my decks if I go back to Free?
They stay, and you can keep studying them. Decks made on a paid plan become study-only on Free: you can't rename, edit or remake them, but you can still delete them. Your progress on them is kept. Pick a paid plan again and they become editable again.
When do AI limits reset?
Once a month. Free and Teacher start again on the 1st, at midnight in your own time zone. Basic and Premium start again each month on your billing date, yearly plans included. Free's 3 AI gradings or explanations are a lifetime total and never reset. The app shows the exact day next to your allowance.
Who handles payments?
Creem, a payment company. You enter your card on Creem's own checkout page, so card details never reach StudyVisually's servers. Creem charges monthly or yearly (yearly costs 2 months less) and keeps your invoices. Switching plan, or between monthly and yearly, settles the price difference for the rest of the billing period.
Your data
Where is my progress saved?
Without an account, progress is saved in your browser's storage on this device, and you can export it to a file from the Home screen. When you sign in, it also syncs to your account, so you can carry on from another device. Clearing your browser data removes the browser copy only.
What does the AI do with my material?
When you make a deck, the text you add is sent to OpenAI, which writes the cards, questions and diagram. The text is saved with your deck so you can remake it later, and deleting the deck deletes it. Interview answers go to OpenAI only when you ask for AI grading or record a spoken answer.
Can I back up or delete my progress?
Yes. The "Your progress" panel at the bottom of Home exports everything to a file, imports a file back, and resets progress to zero. Import and reset both offer an Undo button. If you are signed in, a reset also clears the progress saved in your account.
Try it with today's mission.
Open the app and spend 20 minutes on a free subject or your own notes. Start without signing up, no card needed.
