Analogy
Your request logs, except you can click on step 4 and see exactly what it received.
In an agent
When an automation misbehaves, executions show whether n8n or the agent got it wrong.
Questions people ask
How do I debug a workflow in n8n?
Open the Executions list. Each run is logged with the data every node received and produced, so you can click a step and see exactly what went in and out. Failed runs show where they stopped and the error message, like request logs you can inspect step by step.
How do I tell whether n8n or the agent caused a wrong result?
Open the execution and check the data at the step that called the agent. If the input was wrong, fix the workflow. If the input was right but the agent's answer was wrong, look at the agent's trace in a tool like Langfuse to see which step went wrong.
