Questions people ask

What is the difference between a tissue and an organ?

A tissue is a group of similar cells that do the same job, like muscle tissue. An organ is made of several different tissues working together. The stomach, for example, has muscle tissue to churn food, glandular tissue to make juices and epithelial tissue to line its surface.

How many organ systems does the human body have?

Textbooks usually list around ten to twelve, including the digestive, circulatory, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, skeletal, muscular, excretory, immune and reproductive systems. Exam courses focus on a few of them. The exact number depends on how a book groups the organs.
