## Analogy

Sorting your address from country to street to house number.

## In practice

Humans are in the kingdom animals and the species Homo sapiens.

## Practice

### Flashcards

- **What is the first step in classification?** Putting organisms into a kingdom.

## Questions people ask

### What are the levels of classification?

From largest to smallest the levels are kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species. A memory aid is King Philip Came Over For Good Soup. Each level has fewer organisms than the one above, and organisms in the same species are the most alike.

### What is the binomial system?

Binomial means two names. Every species gets a Latin name made of its genus and species, such as Homo sapiens for humans. The genus has a capital letter, the species a small letter, and both are italicised. Using one agreed name avoids confusion between languages.
